The development of increasingly advanced automotive safety technologies has been accelerated in order to prevent traffic accidents. We have already commercialized an Advanced Driver Assistance System for assisting the driver in recognition, judgment and operation at the wheel. Aiming at near-future commercialization of more advanced collision avoidance assistance systems, we have also developed related sub-systems such as braking, steering, and suspension mechanisms. We are also conducting intensive R&D into further enhancing safety through motion control technologies to coordinate the capacity to look/sense and judge with the action of driving, steering and braking.

Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. is focusing on enhancing the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) technologies which will be a key part of the growth of the market for autonomous driving systems. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are systems developed to automate/adapt/enhance vehicle systems for safety and better driving. Safety features are designed to avoid collisions and accidents by offering technologies that alert the driver to potential problems, or to avoid collisions by implementing safeguards and taking over control of the vehicle.

Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. have developed Power steering which helps the driver of a vehicle to steer by directing some of the its power to assist in swiveling the steered road wheels about their steering axes. A hydraulic power steering (HPS) uses hydraulic pressure supplied by an engine-driven pump to assist the motion of turning the steering wheel. Electric power steering (EPS) is more efficient than hydraulic power steering, since the electric power steering motor only needs to provide assistance when the steering wheel is turned, whereas the hydraulic pump must run constantly.

Since vehicles first began to move, stopping safely has been a priority , Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. developed brake system which maximizing the effect of regenerative brake of electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicle , hand has less negative pressure cooperative energy regeneration. Recently, Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. developed its own electromechanical brake system as the brake system of the future. This will have the same brake functions as the electrohydraulic brake-by-wire, which are conventional brake functions and all the brake control functions, including antilock brake system (ABS) stability control, brake assist, and autonomous intelligent cruise control. It will also be possible to have additional functions such as electric parking braking.

Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. developed controlled suspensions system which provide a high level of both handling and ride comfort. At the same time that greater use is being made of these in small, low-cost vehicles, mainly in the form of semi-active suspension, progress also continues on improving performance through integrated control and cooperative operation with other chassis control systems.

To improve vehicle fuel efficiency ,Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. developed propeller shaft which has been made considerably lighter than its predecessors by using aluminum in place of steel. Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc.'s propeller shaft transmits engine torque to the rear wheels and therefore needs to be strong and reliable. As propeller shaft system is part of Drive Train products, they provide low collapse force for improved vehicle crash performance resulting from Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) Propeller Shaft.
